The People's Pig, Portland, OR, USA

I went out to Portland, Oregon, on a fact finding mission. Other than trying to gauge how bad the hippie problem was, I was interested in the food there. And I learned it's all about Pigs N' Pinot Noir. Not sure why Oregon has so many pigs, but they do and people are passionate about them, as this Pig Fight article indicates.

The Pig People, or rather The People's Pig is a food truck located downtown specializing in porcine prophecies. They definitely do it right. Not only did they have Mexican Sugar Cokes in bottles, tasting like the kind that you had at the barber shop as a kid (the sugar part, not necessarily the mexican part), they serve some splendid swine.

I had a porchetta sandwich on a ciabatta roll with arugula and lemon. I also got the man to throw on some mama lil's peppers. It was an amazing sandwich--a bit fatty but it is a fatty pork roast after all.

My friends got cuban style sandwiches with an orange sauce and pickled cabbage. They too enjoyed them but I detected that they wished the roasted pork itself had more seasoning or sauce.

This is super food. What a great truck. This is the side of Portland that makes me want to move.
